The rule that catches people out: the curl always drops a little. Whatever shape comes off the barrel loosens as it cools and settles, so if you want a 1-inch curl in the mirror at 6pm, curl it on something closer to 3/4 inch in the morning. Long, heavy hair drops more because gravity is pulling on more mass.
Clamp or wand?

What those numbers mean
Barrel diameter is what decides curl shape, and it is not a preference so much as a physical fact: a half-inch barrel makes a tight spiral and a 1.5-inch barrel makes a loose bend. Owning three is owning three tools.

What those numbers mean
A 375F ceiling is the quiet advantage. It is high enough to set a curl on almost any hair and low enough that the worst-case setting is not catastrophic, which is not true of the 455F irons.

What those numbers mean
455F exists so the box can say 455F. Nothing in the thermal-damage literature supports taking hair there, and the reason to buy a digital iron is precisely so you can sit at 330F or 350F and know it.
A two-hour auto shut-off is generous to the point of being a safety note rather than a safety feature. Most irons here shut off in thirty minutes or one hour.
Dual voltage on a curling iron is more useful than it sounds, because curling irons are the tool people most often ruin abroad.

The Coanda effect is the actual product. Fast-moving air over a curved surface pulls nearby air, and hair, along with it — so the barrel wraps the section for you and sets it with airflow rather than by pressing hot metal onto it.

Publishing all five temperatures as actual numbers is the reason this is here. A 300F floor is genuinely usable on fine hair, and you can see exactly what you are choosing.

A waver clamps a whole section at once and puts the bend in with one press. Curling the same section and brushing it out takes several times as long and is much harder to keep even.

Is a curling wand better than a curling iron?
They produce different ends. A clamp leaves a small crimp mark where it gripped, usually near the tip; a wand has no clamp so the ends stay natural, which reads as more effortless.
