Privacy Policy
Short, because the honest answer is that this site collects very little.
This policy covers heatindexco.com. It is written to be read rather than to be legally impressive, and it describes what the site actually does.
What this site collects
- Analytics. Heat Index uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and which links they click. This records pages viewed, approximate location from IP, device and browser type, and referring site. It does not record your name, email or anything that identifies you personally to us.
- Buy-link clicks. When you click a buy link we record that the click happened, which product it was for and which page it came from. This is how we know which recommendations are useful. It is not tied to you.
- Contact form submissions. If you send a message, we receive your name, email address, the topic you selected and your message. Nothing else, and nothing from the form is used for marketing.
- Server logs. Our host records standard request logs, including IP address, for security and reliability.
What this site does not do
- No account system. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No newsletter. We do not collect email addresses except through the contact form.
- No display advertising, so no ad-network trackers.
- No selling or sharing of personal data with anyone, for any purpose.
- No captcha service on the contact form - it uses a hidden field and a timing check instead, which means no third party sees your interaction with the form.
Affiliate links and cookies
Buy links on this site route through an on-site redirect and then to Amazon. Amazon sets its own cookies when you arrive, which is how it attributes a purchase to us. That cookie is Amazon's, governed by Amazon's privacy policy, and we have no access to it or to anything you subsequently do on their site.
We do not know what you bought. Amazon reports aggregate commission, not individual purchases tied to individual visitors. The full disclosure is here.
Contact form data
Messages sent through the form are delivered by email to info@heatindexco.com and are kept only as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of any correction that resulted. They are not added to any list.
Your choices
- Block analytics. Any standard content blocker or browser tracking protection will stop Google Analytics loading. The site works normally without it.
- Block cookies. Your browser settings control this. Blocking Amazon's cookie means we earn nothing from your purchase; the site still works.
- Ask about your data. If you have contacted us and want to know what we hold or want it deleted, email info@heatindexco.com and we will do it.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the last-updated date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be noted rather than slipped in.
