How this site makes money, stated plainly, because you should know before you click anything.
Amazon Associates
Heat Index is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
Our Amazon tracking tag is heatindexco-20. Every buy link on this site routes through an on-site /go/ redirect that adds that tag before sending you to Amazon. The redirect exists so we can change a destination without rewriting the page it sits on, and so the click can be counted — it does not collect anything about you beyond that.
Which retailers we link
Amazon only, at present. We are not currently members of any other affiliate network, so there are no Commission Junction or Awin links anywhere on this site. If that changes we will update this page before the links go live rather than after.
Where a product is not sold on Amazon, we either link a tagged Amazon search for it or say plainly that we do not earn on that link. We will not construct a tracking link for a program we have not joined.
How commission affects rankings
It does not, and here is the specific reason that claim is checkable rather than just asserted: every product on this site is ranked on published specifications against the job the page is about, and the criteria are written down. Amazon pays the same rate across the category, so there is no commission incentive to prefer one product over another within it.
More to the point, every single pick on this site carries a "skip this one if" section naming the buyer it is wrong for. That is a required field in the content model — a product cannot be published here without one. Recommending against a product we would earn on is built into the structure rather than left to good intentions.
Prices
Prices shown on this site come from a live data layer that refreshes daily. A price older than 48 hours disappears and the button falls back to "check price on Amazon" rather than showing you a stale number.
We never type a price into a page. This is worth saying because it is a real difference: competitor pages in this category routinely carry hard-coded prices that have not been touched in years, and a price that is wrong by a hundred dollars is worse than no price at all.
What we do not take
- No sponsored placements. No brand has paid for a position, a mention or a link.
- No free products. No PR samples, no loans, no gifted units. This is also why we do not claim to have tested anything.
- No paid inclusion. A brand cannot buy its way onto a roundup.
- No pre-publication review. No manufacturer sees a page before it goes live.
- No display advertising that would let an advertiser influence what appears next to it.

Every commercial link on this site carries rel="sponsored nofollow", opens in a new tab, and is labeled #ad in the text directly beneath it. A short version of this disclosure appears above the first buy link on every page that has one, so you never have to come here to find out.
