MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 4.0 PRO vs Gillette i7 Intimate
On published features per dollar the Gillette wins, and on the one specification that matters in a shower it does not publish anything at all.

If you groom dry, the Gillette i7 Intimate is the better value and it is not close — a 100-minute runtime, an LED light, a travel lock and a charging stand, for clearly less money than the MANSCAPED. If you groom in the shower, buy the MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 4.0 PRO, because Gillette publishes no waterproof rating at all and MANSCAPED publishes IPX7. One absence decides the whole question, and it is not the one the marketing argues about.
That is an unusual way for a value comparison to land. Normally the cheaper tool is cheaper because it does less. Here the cheaper tool publishes MORE than the expensive one on runtime, and less on the two things you would most want to know about something used in a wet room: how water-resistant it is, and what the blade is made of.
What each one publishes
| Specification | MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 4.0 PRO | Gillette i7 Intimate |
|---|---|---|
| Blade | SkinSafe ceramic, rounded, with a built-in guard - footnoted by MANSCAPED as not guaranteeing cut protection | Not published; one comb is stated to reduce the risk of cuts |
| Comb range | Two adjustable combs covering 2 to 12 mm | Two combs, shortest stated at 2 mm |
| Runtime | Not published on the listing | 100 minutes cordless, with a charging stand |
| Charging | USB-C or wireless | Charging stand included |
| Water rating | IPX7 - immersion in up to 1 m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes | Not published |
| Light | Built-in LED | LED Halo Light for hard-to-see areas |
| Travel lock | 5-second press | 3-second press and hold |
| Power delivery | Constant rpm, stated to stop the blade slowing as the battery drains | Not published |
| Handle | Standard body | Shorter handle with rubberized grip pads |
Where the money actually goes
The price gap buys three things, and it is worth being precise about which.
- A named blade with a guarding story. MANSCAPED states a rounded SkinSafe ceramic blade with a built-in guard. Gillette states that one of its two combs reduces the risk of cuts and publishes no blade material at all. On a tool used below the waist, knowing what the cutting edge is made of is not a detail.
- Constant rpm. MANSCAPED states its blade does not slow as the battery drains. That sounds like a footnote and it is the single most useful line in either spec sheet: a trimmer that slows pulls rather than cuts, and pulling is where nicks and irritation come from.
- A stated water rating. IPX7 is a specification. No rating is not a reassurance. We are not going to tell you a tool belongs in the shower when its maker has not said so.
What the extra money does NOT buy is runtime or convenience. Gillette publishes 100 minutes of cordless use — close to double what several pricier trimmers state — and ships a charging stand. MANSCAPED publishes no runtime figure on its listing at all, which on a cordless tool is a conspicuous blank.
value = published features you will use / price
Gillette: more runtime + light + lock + stand, for less money
Which is why the answer flips on one input. Add "used in the shower" to the numerator and the Gillette's missing water rating takes it out of contention entirely, because the tool might be fine and nobody has said so. Dry use only, and the Gillette is the better buy by a wide margin.
The safety claim both of them get right
MANSCAPED footnotes its own headline claim: SkinSafe technology does not guarantee cut protection. That is the honest position and it deserves to be repeated rather than buried, because it is the correct way to read every safety claim in this category. No tool here can promise you will not catch yourself.
Gillette's equivalent is quieter and similar in spirit — a comb stated to reduce the risk of cuts, which is a claim about likelihood rather than about outcome. Both brands are describing a reduction in risk. Neither is describing immunity, and the technique matters more than either of them: keep the skin taut with your free hand, start with the longest comb you own, and move slowly.
Running costs, which belong in the comparison
- MANSCAPED sells replacement blades on a subscription, and actively steers you toward one. That is a genuine ongoing cost and it belongs in the purchase decision rather than in a footnote.
- Gillette publishes no blade replacement interval on its listing, which cuts both ways: no stated cost, and no stated life either.
- Neither publishes a motor speed or a cutting rate. That is close to universal in body grooming, and it means the one figure you could compare across brands does not exist for either tool.
- Neither publishes a weight. On a tool used at awkward angles that is a real omission, and it is the kind of thing both brands could fix with one line.
Who should buy which
- You groom dry, at a mirror, and want the most tool for the money — the Gillette i7 Intimate. 100 minutes, a light, a lock and a stand, at the cheaper of the two prices.
- You groom in the shower — the MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 4.0 PRO. IPX7 is stated; Gillette's silence is not a rating.
- You want length rather than removal — the MANSCAPED, on its 2 to 12 mm range. The Gillette's two combs both sit at the short end, which tells you the design intent: take length off close and evenly.
- Chest or legs are part of the job — the MANSCAPED again, for the same reason. 12 mm at the top of the range is the difference between grooming and removal.
- You need to reach your own back — neither. Both are below-the-waist tools, and exactly one body groomer publishes an answer to the reach problem: the body groomers roundup has it.

Questions people actually ask
Is the Gillette i7 Intimate better value than the MANSCAPED Lawn Mower?
For dry grooming, yes. Gillette publishes a 100-minute runtime, an LED light, a travel lock and a charging stand, and it is the cheaper of the two; MANSCAPED publishes no runtime figure at all. For shower grooming, no: MANSCAPED states IPX7 - immersion in up to one meter of fresh water for 30 minutes - and Gillette publishes no waterproof rating on its listing, so there is no basis for putting it in a shower. One input decides the answer. Prices move, so tap either buy button for the live figure.
Can you use the Gillette i7 Intimate in the shower?
Gillette does not say, and that is the problem. Its listing carries no waterproof or IP rating, which means we cannot tell you it belongs in a shower - not that it will fail there. If in-shower use is part of your routine, buy a tool whose maker states a rating. MANSCAPED states IPX7, Philips states showerproof on its body groomers, and the Philips OneBlade Intimate states IPX7.
Does MANSCAPED's SkinSafe blade prevent cuts?
No, and MANSCAPED says so itself - it footnotes the claim with the line that SkinSafe technology does not guarantee cut protection. That is the honest position and the right way to read every safety claim in this category. What the design does is put a rounded ceramic edge and a built-in guard between the blade and your skin, which reduces risk rather than removing it. Keeping the skin taut and starting with the longest comb you own does more than either tool's blade design.
Which one has better length control?
The MANSCAPED, clearly. Its two adjustable combs cover 2 to 12 mm, which spans a close tidy through to a deliberate chest or leg length. The Gillette ships two combs with the shortest stated at 2 mm and nothing long, which makes it a tool for taking length off close and evenly rather than for styling at a chosen length.
What does constant rpm actually mean?
That the blade keeps its speed as the battery discharges instead of gradually slowing. MANSCAPED states it; Gillette does not. It matters more than it sounds: a slowing blade stops cutting cleanly and starts pulling, and pulling is the mechanism behind most nicks and most of the irritation people blame on the tool. It is the single most useful line in either spec sheet.
